Personal Theory and Philosophy of Coaching
Coaching is a process focused on getting the client into action to meet and exceed organizational and/or personal goals within a specific timeframe. The process explores the employee’s past accomplishments, trials and failures to uncover patterns in behavior. Understanding behaviors that have been successful and those that have not creates new possibilities for action.

The coaching relationship begins with a clear articulation of goals and the identification of measureable milestones. The heart and fuel of coaching is a series of conversations that leverage the employee’s strengths and unlocks his/her potential. Finding a successful course of action is based on the client’s willingness and commitment to the process. Trust is essential to successful relationships; the coach’s role in building trust is to honor confidentiality, engender confidence and support the client through their development.

Illustrative Coaching Examples

• Executive Development and Team Productivity: Coached hundreds of executives in my career at Hewlett-Packard to improve individual and team effectiveness. This was done both in and outside of HP’s executive leadership programs.
• Executive Talent Management: As the Talent Manager for HP’s CIO and his executive team, coached on HP’s talent management process and development of top talent.
• Middle Management Accelerated Development Program: Managed this program for 3.5 years. My responsibilities were to design, development and coach the 50 high potential middle-managers during the year long program.
